Sankalpa – Gyaneshwarpuri’s self-suggestive method for overcoming old habits and vices.
The idea behind this suggestive method is that we do not forcibly deprive ourselves of anything, we enjoy and indulge in everything in moderation, and at the same time we put positively motivated suggestions, or sankalpas, into our subconscious mind, i.e. our sincere fervent wishes to change our age-old, seemingly unbreakable habits, for example, in the matter of spiritual discipline, the practice of sadhana, the principles of healthy eating, sexual energy, etc. We truly do not deny ourselves anything, we discipline ourselves humorously, without pressure, by this suggestive method, i.e. suggestions, to our subconscious in the lively belief that it helps towards the desired change. It is therefore the power of suggestion, sankalpa shakti, that completely transforms us, not just our own efforts or the power of indomitable will. By this subconscious suggestive power, one can literally and truly triumph over all inner opponents and enemies, found gradually with the spiritual development within, especially in the subconscious and unconscious. However, some degree of self-effort in this renunciation is desirable. We certainly do not leave the changes we seek to our destiny, or karma, alone and try to be a true yogi, the master of our destiny and our karmas. Břetislav Kavka, a Czech mystic and parapsychologist, who published this suggestive method in his very successful book New Foundations of Experimental Psychology, which should be read and studied first by everyone interested in the spiritual journey, had achieved true mastery long before me. The inner and outer worlds are connected vessels. As we are to ourselves, so shall we one day be to our neighbours. Therefore, approach your troubles and problems with humour and do not force anything. You have no idea what you interfere with. Leave everything to the healing power of sankalpa – autosuggestion. In the end, you will be successful. I rediscovered this method in my self-scrutiny meditation. What is important about this method is a living faith in God’s help, for we are in God’s hands whether we realize it or not. It will certainly not work without this faith in God’s higher help, for my method will not work properly. It will lack the core essence. So it is not just an atheistic and psychological method! You will succeed on your spiritual journey if you earn special grace from God, or from Someone from the inner Universe, by your own efforts in the practice of spiritual sadhana. And it is in your hands to what extent you cooperate with the interests of the Universe. It is based on the Power of Love and Compassion. Therefore, learn to carry your crosses humbly until Someone mercifully takes them from you.
